California law requires all security guards to be licensed through the California Department of Consumer Affairs, Bureau of Security and Investigative Services.

The license is called a Guard Registration Card, or "Guard Card" for short. This course is designed to help you prepare for your Guard Card certification.

Medical Terminology (Introductory)
Our Medical Terminology program introduces students to the language of medicine through the study of word structure, prefixes, suffixes, and root words used in health care. Students will learn to define, pronounce, and spell medical terms related to the body systems, diagnostic procedures, and treatments. Emphasis is placed on building a working vocabulary for use in various medical and allied health settings.
Medical records specialists in California earn an average annual salary of about $64,070. This course may help you strengthen your healthcare knowledge and prepare for entry level opportunities in a growing field.

Successful completion of this course is a prerequisite for enrollment in the Medical Billing and Coding program.

Electrocardiography
Technician Program (EKG)
Our Electrocardiography Technician (EKG) program prepares you for careers in cardiac monitoring and diagnostic testing. Learn hands on skills used in hospitals, clinics, and healthcare facilities while preparing for industry certification. Cardiovascular technologists and technicians in California earn an average annual salary of about $89,780. Start building the technical skills that could lead to a rewarding healthcare career.
This self-paced course is designed to prepare students for the Certified EKG Technician (CET) credential through the National Health Career Association. Intended as an exam preparation course, instruction focuses on essential cardiovascular anatomy and physiology, EKG fundamentals, rhythm recognition, medical terminology, and test taking strategies aligned with the CET exam.

This course does not include hands-on clinical training or skills practice. Students will progress at their own pace with guided support, building the knowledge needed to successfully sit for the national certification exam.

At the end of the course and upon successful completion of the course, students will take the CET certification exam. Since the exam is offered through NHA, MCAS is not responsible for test results and does not guarantee NHA certification upon completion of this preparation course.

Prerequisite: Highly recommended to have healthcare field experience and/or EKG training.

Note: Typically cost of exam through NHA is over $100.
